Police identified the 74-year-old man struck and killed on Interstate 70 near Kauffman Stadium Saturday night as Robert Dean Burris of Independence.

A passing motorist struck Burris while he was attempting to cross I-70 in the westbound lanes about 8:15 p.m. Saturday. Burris died at the scene.

The driver stopped immediately and cooperated with police. Alcohol use by the driver was eliminated as a factor and she was released.

The incident backed up traffic for two miles while westbound traffic was reduced to one lane in the area for about 90 minutes.
