Fire damages Harmony Middle School in Overland Park; no injuries reported

A kitchen fire at Harmony Middle School Tuesday afternoon caused some damage but no injuries, according to the Overland Park Fire Department.

Fire crews were called to the school at 141st Street and Switzer Road shortly after 5 p.m. They put out a fire that apparently started in the school’s kitchen and spread to the roof.

No injuries were reported. The school was unnoccupied except for work crews who are renovating the building. The school is closed for the summer.

Firefighters believed the fire started with a kitchen appliance but the exact cause was not known.
