Damaging winds, large hail, isolated tornadoes possible Tuesday in Kansas City area

A strong storm system is expected to move through the Kansas City area bringing the chance for severe storms Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Damaging winds, large hail, dangerous lightning and flash flooding are the main threats from these storms. However, a few tornadoes are also possible, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.

The storms are expected to develop late in the afternoon and continue through the evening. The storms are expected to clear out of the Kansas City area around midnight.

Dangerous heat is expected to move into the area on Thursday and Friday. The temperatures likely will be the hottest so far this year. The heat index is expected to reach around 105 degrees south of the Interstate 70 corridor on Wednesday.

Kansas City could see the heat index reach above 100 degrees by Thursday.
