Expect a hot, sunny weekend in Kansas City

The first official day of summer is 10 days away, but summer has started.

We’re expecting a sunny, hot weekend, with temperatures in the mid 90s and lows in the 70s.

Thunderstorms are possible Monday night into Tuesday morning, with high temps in the low 90s.

Normal temperatures in the Kansas City metro for this time of year are highs in the low-80s and lows in the 60s.

The metropolitan area typically has seen its first 90-degree day of the year by now — the average first 90-degree day of the year is May 27.

Dan Hawblitzel, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said to mind the heat and sun.

“It’s the first time dealing with the heat this year, so just be sure to take it easy and to take the proper precautions,” he said.
