Tanker truck overturns, closes northbound Missouri 291 in Sugar Creek
A tanker truck overturned in northeast Independence about 6:40 a.m. Friday, causing traffic issues on northbound Missouri 291 until early afternoon.
The truck remained on its side for hours just north of the access road to the Courtney Ridge Landfill. Though one lane of traffic had been allowed to pass the wreck initially, police shut down both northbound lanes about 7 a.m. and kept it shut down into the afternoon.
Missouri transportation officials recommended that drivers find an alternative route. That created a problem for many commuters who use the Missouri 291 bridge to get from Jackson County to Liberty.
