Munday on Monday: Abrupt departure

You’re leaving now? (I nearly say);

To think a friend should go away

And so abruptly! What is meant?

So many pleasant hours spent

Together! Thus, I’m left bereft;

There’s just a couple pages left.

My friend: The book that has me rapt,

Engrossed to see how tale is capped.

Chagrined, I’m nearly at the end

And at the final word, my friend

Shall leave me. Ah! Our fate is such!

Of those who love their books too much.
