Interstate 35 and Interstate 435 will be briefly closed Friday morning for work related to the Johnson County Gateway project.

Interstates 35 and 435 will be briefly closed again Friday morning at the Johnson County Gateway interchange, transportation officials said Thursday.

The closure would repeat a procedure carried out Thursday, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The roads will be closed completely for about 15 minutes at 9:30 a.m.

The closure had not been planned but was needed because the scheduled demolition Thursday of a section of bridge did not go as planned.

Traffic on I-35 and I-435 will be stopped from Kansas 10 to U.S. 69 and from 95th to 119th streets while crews remove a bridge girder.

Overnight, westbound I-435 will be reduced to one lane at I-35 until 5 a.m. Friday.

KDOT planned to alert drivers Friday morning with signs along the highways.
