I-435 in Overland Park will close at night this weekend

Drivers should expect major delays this weekend on Interstate 435 across the southern part of the Kansas City area.

Construction work will force the closure of I-435 on Friday and Saturday so crews can lift girders into place for the new interchange at Roe Avenue in Overland Park.

The closures will begin with lane closures at 8 p.m. each night, with the highway being completely closed by 10 p.m.

Crews will close eastbound I-435 on Friday night. The highway will reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday. During that closure, traffic will be detoured south on Nall Avenue, east on College Boulevard and then north on Roe Avenue, where it will pick up eastbound I-435.

Crews will close westbound I-435 on Saturday night, with the highway reopening at 10 a.m. Sunday. Traffic will be detoured north on Roe Avenue, west on 103rd Street and south on Nall Avenue, where it will pick up westbound I-435.

Drivers can also expect varying closures at the Kansas 7/U.S. 169/151st Street and Interstate 35 interchange in Olathe because of pavement reconstruction.

The work begins at 9 p.m Friday and will reopen to all traffic at 5 a.m. Monday.
