Heat advisory issued for Kansas City area as temperatures quickly rise

A heat advisory has been issued for Kansas City as extreme heat and humidity returns.

The advisory is in effect until 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Mo.

Afternoon highs are expected to reach into the upper 90s. Because of the high humidity, the heat index is expected to be between 103 and 108.

The hot conditions are expected to continue into Saturday, with the heat index near 100 degrees. Highs are expected to be in the mid 90s.

A break in the heat will come Sunday. Highs are expected to be in the 80s.
