Grain Valley has settled a lawsuit with a driver who sued the city after he was ticketed for warning other motorists of a speed trap in the city.

The American Civil Liberties Union represented the driver, Jerry L. Jarman Jr., who was cited for flashing his lights to warn others of the speed trap. The ACLU said warning lights are protected by the First Amendment.

Grain Valley repealed the warning light ban shortly after the lawsuit was filed in December, but the lawsuit remained.

The ACLU said Friday that Grain Valley agreed to pay damages to the driver and his costs and the case was dismissed.
