Richard Myers will speak at Memorial Day ceremony at World War I museum

Retired general Richard Myers, a Kansas City area native, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and current interim president of Kansas State University, will deliver the address at the Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at the National World War I Museum and Memorial.

The observance will be on the deck of the Liberty Memorial in front of Memory Hall. A free shuttle service will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday from the Union Station parking garage.

New Walk of Honor bricks will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Monday.

Admission to the museum will be free for veterans and active duty military personnel from Friday through Monday. Admission will be half price for the general public.

A display of vintage military vehicles from World War I, World War II, the Korean War and Operation Desert Storm will be on the memorial’s southeast lawn Saturday and Sunday. A Vietnam War era “Huey” helicopter will be on display Friday through Monday.

Visitors may handle First World War artifacts during a hands-on history program at 11 a.m. Saturday.
