Riverside police prevent man from jumping into Missouri River
Riverside police grabbed a man threatening to jump into the Missouri River from the Interstate 635 bridge late Monday.
The incident began about 10 p.m. with a report of a stalled vehicle along northbound I-635 on the Missouri River bridge.
The responding officer found a man standing between the vehicle and the concrete wall of the bridge. The man refused to speak to the officer.
At one point, the man placed his hands on the wall and looked over toward the river below. The officer called for backup because it appeared the man was preparing to jump into the river.
The man continued to refuse to speak to police even after additional officers arrived and he began to move closer to the edge. The officers moved in and grabbed him before he attempted to jump.
The officers moved the man back from the edge to a safe area. He was taken to a hospital.
