12-year-old bicyclist dies of traffic crash injuries

A 12-year-old Kansas City boy has died after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle early Saturday morning.

Kansas City police on Tuesday identified the boy as Jawuan Bettis.

The collision occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday. Police said that Jawuan was riding the bicycle across Bruce R. Watkins Drive at 55th Street when he was hit.

The driver remained at the scene, and the incident is still under investigation.
