The online auction of the gun used by George Zimmerman to kill Trayvon Martin ended Wednesday morning with a high bid of $138,900.

It is not known if Zimmerman, who was acquitted in the 2012 killing of the Florida teen, will accept the bid.

The auction was held on the website UnitedGunGroup.com.

Kansas City area resident Todd Underwood, one of the website’s founders, said it was started earlier this year to provide people with a forum to conduct legal, constitutionally protected business.

Underwood consulted with an attorney to ensure that the sale of the 9 mm handgun was legal.

Other than providing a website for the auction, Underwood said he had no part in the transaction.

Zimmerman posted on the auction site that the transaction would be conducted between federally licensed firearms dealers.
