A 28-year-old woman and a 9-year-old child, both from Kansas City, died Tuesday when the car the woman was driving crossed the median on Interstate 35 near Ottawa and another car broadsided them.

A Kansas City woman and a child died Tuesday evening when their car crossed the median on Interstate 35 near Ottawa, Kan., and another car broadsided them.

The victims were identified as April L. Brown, 28, and Jeremiah Persinger, 9, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

A third person in the car, a 46-year-old Kansas City man, as well as the driver of the other car, a 28-year-old Wellsville, Kan., woman, were taken to Kansas City area hospitals.

The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. about 4 miles north of Ottawa on Interstate 35.

Brown was driving a 1994 Toyota Camry south on I-35 when she lost control and crossed the median. The other car, a 2006 Infiniti G, was headed north and broadsided the Camry.
