Firefighters battle fire at south Kansas City apartment building

Firefighters battled a fire Tuesday morning at a south Kansas City apartment building.

The fire was reported shortly before 8 a.m. in the 1200 block of East 116th Terrace.

The first arriving firefighters reported seeing smoke coming from a first floor apartment. The building was being evacuated.

Initial reports indicated that everyone had escaped the building. The Kansas City Fire Department reported treating one person for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were checking to see if the fire had spread to the floors above the apartment where the fire had started.

The unoccupied house in the 14000 block of Parkhill Street was possibly hit by lightning.
