Munday on Monday: ‘Only me’

The bear looks grim on billboard sign;

His message is a single line:

That “only you” (he points at me)

Can keep these fires from starting. Gee!

His trust in me I’m loath to shirk,

But doubts I have that this’ll work:

My garden hose will scarcely reach

The redbud in the back. Beseech

Me then to stop these spates

Of fires that burn in other states?

(To battle blazes ’cross the nation

I’ve neither time nor inclination.)

Yet Smokey looks to me the most?

Well, if it’s up to me, we’re toast.
