Kansas City Star reporters win Kansas journalism awards
Kansas City Star reporter Judy L. Thomas has won a Kansas News Enterprise Award for a series of stories on domestic terrorism.
The series, “Ignoring the Threat Within,” showed how federal agencies have let down their guard on domestic terrorists, who have posed a greater threat on American soil in recent years than foreign terrorists.
The award was presented on William Allen White Day at the University of Kansas. Other winners included The Wichita Eagle and The Hutchinson News.
Thomas’ series also won first place in the investigative category from the Kansas Press Association.
“Little Boy Lost,” a series by Laura Bauer, won a second place award in the series category of the Kansas Press Association contest. The three-part series profiled an abused boy named Govi.
