North Kansas City man drowns in the Missouri River

A 56-year-old North Kansas City man drowned Wednesday while swimming in the Missouri River.

Shannon K. Kincade, 56, drowned about 4:35 p.m. about three miles downstream from Missouri City in Clay County. While he was swimming to a rock dike, he went under the water briefly before resurfacing, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Witnesses pulled him from the water and tried to resuscitate him. He was taken to a hospital.

This is the second drowning in the Kansas City area in recent days.

Don W. King, 77, of Pleasant Hill, drowned Sunday in Pleasant Hill City Lake in Cass County.

King’s body was found about 11:30 a.m. in the water with a unoccupied kayak floating nearby, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
