President Barack Obama will visit the University of Kansas next Thursday, the university has announced.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the president will discuss themes he will lay out in his State of the Union address on Tuesday. Details will be released later.

Obama will be the fourth sitting U.S. president to visit KU, the university said. The others were William H. Taft in 1911, Rutherford B. Hayes in 1879 and Ulysses S. Grant in 1873.

Harry Truman, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton all visited after they left office.

The last time President Obama visited Kansas City was in July, when he gave a speech about the economy at the Uptown Theater.
