Standoff closed highway near Liberty for more than 4 hours

A standoff between law officers and a possibly suicidal person closed Missouri 210 at Raines Road near Liberty for more than four hours on Friday.

The incident began about 3:45 p.m. when a trooper pulled a driver over for speeding. The man in the vehicle then pulled out a gun and pointed it at himself. The man drove away but stopped and again pointed the gun at himself.

Officers negotiated with the man until he surrendered and was taken into custody. The Highway Patrol said the man, 65, was from North Carolina and had acquaintances in the Richmond, Mo., area.
