Kansas City policeman’s corruption conviction is upheld

A suspended Kansas City police officer’s conviction on charges of coercing a woman to have sex with him was upheld Tuesday by the Missouri Court of Appeals.

Jeffrey Holmes had appealed his 2014 conviction on one count of acceding to corruption.

Holmes was an officer in the South Patrol Division in 2012 when he visited a known prostitute at a south Kansas City motel. He was wearing a police uniform when he made the woman perform sex acts without paying her.

His actions “made it plain to a reasonable person in (the prostitute’s) situation that he was soliciting sexual favors in return for not arresting her,” the appeals court ruling said.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said in a statement that the appeals ruling “shows that no one is above the law.”
