Swimmer rescued at Northland YMCA
Quick action apparently helped avert a tragedy Tuesday at a Northland YMCA swimming pool.
A YMCA lifeguard pulled a 19-year-old man from the outdoor pool and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, said Paula Oxler, spokeswoman for the YMCA of Greater Kansas City.
“The person was conscious and responsive,” Oxler said.
As a precaution, she added, the swimmer was taken to a hospital after the incident, which occurred about 1 p.m. at the Vivion Road Family YMCA at 1101 N.E. 47th St., in Kansas City, North.
A Kansas City Fire Department ambulance crew member also performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, said Battalion Chief James Garrett, who added that he was uncertain of the swimmer’s condition.
