Kansas City school board candidate forum is set for Thursday evening
Kansas City voters go to the polls on Tuesday, and when they get inside the booths they won’t find any names on the ballot for the Kansas City Public Schools board.
That doesn’t mean no one is running, just that no one successfully fulfilled the candidate filing requirements for three of the four positions with seats open.
Only one person, Jennifer Wolfsie, is certified as a candidate, for the at-large position currently held by Airick L. West. But since she is unopposed in that race, she gets the seat without a vote. Her name is not on the ballot.
But on Thursday the League of Women Voters of Kansas City, Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties and the Kansas City Public Schools District Advisory Committee will host a public forum to introduce voters to seven who have registered as write-in candidates for the school board.
The forum, at 6 p.m. at Central Middle School at 3611 E. Linwood Blvd., will be moderated by a league member. Each write-in will have an opportunity to respond to written questions from the audience.
The forum is free.
Voters will chose write-in candidates for each of three positions: Subdistrict 1, currently held by board chair Jon Hile; Subdistrict 3, currently held by Marisol Montero; and Subdistrict 5, currently held by vice chair Curtis L. Rogers.
