Large hail, damaging winds, heavy rains possible in Kansas City area Wednesday evening
Strong to severe thunderstorms will likely sweep across the Kansas City region Wednesday evening, bringing the threat of large hail, damaging winds and heavy rains.
There’s a small threat for tornadoes, but that threat is limited and will quickly diminish as the storms move eastward during the evening hours, according to the National Weather Service.
There’s a chance for several rounds of showers and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day Wednesday with the first wave likely late morning into the early afternoon.
There might be a lull early this afternoon after the initial round of storms move out of the area. The threat of severe weather, however, increases during the late afternoon and evening hours, according to the National Weather Service.
A line of thunderstorms is expected to develop across Kansas late in the afternoon. That line of severe weather will likely develop along a line from Wichita to Manhattan and then track eastward, according to the National Weather Service.
Scattered strong to severe storms could produce wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail up to 2 inches in diameter. Such storms, however, should be widely scattered. The strong to severe storms are expected in the Kansas City area between 6 and 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
After this storm system moves through the area, cooler conditions are expected through the end of the week. By Sunday, temperatures will likely climb back into the 70s, according to the National Weather Service.
