Kansas City commutes are a breeze, according to GPS maker TomTom
Kansas City might be the envy of the world when it comes to commuting.
TomTom, a Dutch-based maker of GPS-based navigation systems, ranks Kansas City at No. 67 of the most congested U.S. cities. That’s a far cry from No. 7 Miami or No. 8 Washington.
It even ranks better than No. 62 St. Louis.
Kansas City congestion adds 50 hours a year to commutes, or 13 minutes a day, compared with 164 hours a year or 43 minutes a day for No. 1 gridlocked Los Angeles.
And it improved from 2014 to 2015. According to TomTom, Kansas City’s congestion level fell 1 percent. Other recent studies support commuters’ relative ease of navigating Kansas City roadways.
The most congested day here in 2015? Feb. 19, the day about half an inch of snow fell.
The TomTom Traffic Index tracks road congestion in 295 cities worldwide. According to its website, road authorities use the information TomTom gathers to improve traffic flows.
Mexico City is the world’s most congested city, adding a whopping 219 hours a year to its residents’ commutes.
Of the top 10 most congested cities in the world, three are in Brazil and one is in China. Los Angeles ranks No. 10.
Kansas City? It’s No. 170 worldwide.
