Child sex abuse case dismissed against Boy Scouts in Kansas City
A man cannot sue the Boy Scouts for his alleged childhood sexual abuse at the hands of a Kansas City Scout leader, the Missouri Supreme Court ruled Tuesday.
The man, identified as John Doe in court documents, filed suit in 2011 in Jackson County Circuit Court, seeking to hold the Heart of America Council and the national Boy Scouts of America liable for the sexual abuse in the 1990s when he was a minor.
But in Tuesday’s unanimous opinion, the Supreme Court ruled that the statute of limitations precluded his battery and negligence claims.
On a third claim of childhood sexual abuse, the court ruled that it could only pertain to the alleged perpetrator and not a third party or organization.
