Flames damage two homes in Northeast area of Kansas City
Kansas City firefighters battled a Northeast area fire involving two houses Wednesday morning.
The fire was reported about 8 a.m. in the 6800 block of East 12th Terrace. Arriving firefighters reported one house fully engulfed in flames, which had spread to a second house. The houses stand just southeast from the Whatsoever Community Center.
The larger, more severely damaged home had been vacant for several months, said David Francis, who lives across the street.
“It’s good that they caught it when they did,” said Francis, a 26-year resident of the neighborhood. Francis believed the second, smaller home also to have been vacant.
Firefighters put out another fire at the larger home several months ago, Francis said, and more recently had returned to extinguish a truck fire in the home’s back yard.
