Fire damages building at Eighth Street and Prospect Avenue
Fire damaged a building at Eighth Street and Prospect Avenue on Thursday afternoon, according to the Kansas City Fire Department.
Fire crews responded to the blaze about 4:30 p.m. at a two-story commercial building, where firefighters worked for about a half hour to put out the fire, said chief fire marshal Floyd Peoples.
The building owner told fire officials that he accidentally started the fire while working with burning coals on the back deck of the building as part of an art project.
A firefighter suffered a minor ankle injury after slipping on the steps of the building. No other injuries were reported.
