Dashcam captures tractor-trailer sideswiping Missouri trooper’s car
The dashcam of a Missouri trooper’s patrol car captured the moment a tractor-trailer sideswiped the car at the end of a traffic stop Monday.
Although the trooper was uninjured, the Missouri Highway Patrol released the video as a reminder to other drivers to move over when they see emergency vehicles at the side of the road, said Sgt. Bill Lowe, a spokesman for the agency.
Missouri’s “Move Over” law requires people to slow down and move over when approaching a stationary emergency vehicle with its emergency lights on.
“The video shows why we need this law,” Lowe said. “This could have been a lot worse. If the semi had struck the car from behind, it could have been fatal. At those speeds, a lot of bad things could have happened.”
The crash occurred about 12:30 p.m. Monday on Missouri 13, about five miles north of Bolivar, Mo.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was cited for careless and imprudent driving.
