Olathe firefighters rescue rabbits, cats and a guinea pig from burning apartments
Olathe firefighters rescued seven pets — four rabbits, two cats and a guinea pig — from a burning building Friday afternoon.
The fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. at 209 E. Loula St., where a residence containing five apartments was burning, according to the Olathe Fire Department.
No injuries were reported in the fire. The rescued animals included a rabbit named Thor, who was reunited with his family at the scene.
Fire officials said the Red Cross helped about 10 people who were displaced by the blaze.
Fire investigators believe the fire was caused by discarded smoking materials that ignited a wooden deck on the second floor.
