Citizens of the World Charter Kansas City has hired a principal for the school opening in the heart of midtown in the fall.
Douglas Smith, a former midtown resident and teacher at Washington High School, currently coordinates the International Baccalaureate program at Pan American High School of Bahia in Brazil.
Citizens of the World has chosen Smith to lead its elementary school aimed at serving an economically and racially diverse student population.
“As principal, I will work relentlessly to make sure all our students reach their full potential by becoming active learners who understand themselves and others,” Smith said in a statement Wednesday.
