Freedom Summer forum set for Thursday
Two Kansas City-area historians will discuss the 50th anniversary of the “Freedom Summer” of 1964 during a forum Thursday.
“Freedom Summer” is the title given to the efforts of hundreds of young volunteers who traveled to Mississippi 50 years ago to help register African-Americans to vote.
Joelouis Mattox and Leonard Zeskind will speak at the free forum, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, 3700 Blue Parkway.
