Munday on Monday: Making waves

IN THE NEWS: Scientists announce the discovery of gravitational waves.

The news — around the world it flew!

But waves are clearly nothing new;

The list begins with microwave

Which burns the popcorn bag we crave.

And cold waves dot the weather map;

Or sound waves: proved by thunder-clap.

The amber waves of grain, in lore;

Or flag that waves on windy shore.

And don’t forget the seismic wave

(When fault lines opt to misbehave).

The friendly wave a neighbor sends;

Or crime wave bodes some nasty trends.

If any other waves occurred,

I’ll waive my right to play with words.
