Pedestrian killed on I-70 in Independence
A 57 year-old Kansas City resident was killed late Friday night while attempting to cross Interstate 70 following a wreck.
The incident occurred after a driver of a Mazda SUV lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the highway’s center concrete divider near Lee’s Summit Road. A passenger exited the SUV and attempted to cross the westbound lanes but was hit by another vehicle about 11:45 p.m., according to Independence police.
The pedestrian died at the scene. Three other passengers and the driver of the SUV sustained non-life threatening injuries. Police did not release their identities Saturday. The crash remained under investigation.
