Authorities identify KC man who died after jumping out window to escape fire

Authorities on Tuesday identified a 70-year-old man who died after jumping out the window of a burning Northland residence as Jerry Block of Kansas City.

The fire was reported just before 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Northeast 107th Street. Block and another resident escaped the duplex fire by jumping out the window. They were taken to a hospital, where Block died. The condition of the other victim was not available Tuesday.

The fire remained under investigation, authorities said.
