The University of Kansas Hospital has resumed taking new patients at its Marillac Campus in Overland Park after an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness last week brought a stop to new inpatient admissions at the pediatric behavioral health facility.
The hospital reported last week that 10 patients and eight staff became ill with suspected norovirus infections. Laboratory tests confirmed norovirus in one person.
The campus underwent “days of extensive cleaning and re-cleaning for combating the norovirus,” and patients and staff have been free of symptoms since Thursday, the hospital said in a statement released Sunday. “The hospital will continue to be vigilant in the practice of proper hygiene and disinfectant techniques designed to fight norovirus.”
Marillac’s outpatient program also is accepting new patients, the hospital said.
