Police identify motorist killed in Interstate 70 wreck in east Kansas City

Police have identified a motorist killed in a rollover accident early Monday on Interstate 70 as Johnny Wilson, 42, of Kansas City.

The crash was reported after midnight just west of Blue Ridge Cutoff. Police said an eastbound Chevrolet Suburban struck a concrete barrier after Wilson lost control. The vehicle overturned and landed in the westbound lanes. Wilson died at the scene.

An officer responding to the accident was injured when his patrol vehicle was struck from behind. The patrol vehicle’s emergency lights were on when the crash occurred. The officer and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Police stopped traffic in both directions of the interstate for 90 minutes while crews removed debris and replaced the barrier.
