A potentially strong winter storm with high winds is expected to strike the Kansas City area Monday night, with rain turning to snow on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service office at Pleasant Hill warned of prossibly hazardous road conditions beginning late Monday, when the chance of rain is 90 percent. Several inches of snow could fall and drift by Wednesday.

Kansas City sits on the south rim of the region in which forecasters expect wintry conditions to be most severe. The anticipated storm front runs from western Kansas through northwest Missouri into all of Iowa.

The long-range forecast calls for sunny but chilly conditions in Kansas City later in the week.
