Kansas City’s third streetcar vehicle has shipped from its factory in Elmira, N.Y., and is expected to arrive next week.

On Friday, streetcar No. 803 left the CAF manufacturing plant, carried on the back of a large flatbed truck. But it didn’t make it out of New York state by the end of the workday.

Because of New York’s rules, the delivery truck now can’t leave the state until Monday morning. So the cross-country road trip will begin then.

If all goes as planned, the vehicle is expected to arrive Wednesday afternoon, weather permitting.

The fourth and last streetcar vehicle is expected to arrive in late March.

A grand opening celebration of the downtown streetcar system, which will run from the River Market to Union Station, is being planned for late April or early May.
