Overland Park boy is 100th liver transplant patient at Children’s Mercy
An 11-month-old Overland Park boy last month became the 100th patient to receive a liver transplant at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
When Jackson Thomas was 7 months old, he was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a liver tumor, the hospital said. He underwent chemotherapy and then received a liver on May 14. Complications kept blood from flowing to the new liver, so he had a second transplant on May 23.
“Jackson is doing great,” his mother, Terry Thomas, said in a news release from the hospital. “He will do three more rounds of chemotherapy in June, and our hope is that he will be cancer-free.”
Children’s Mercy performed its first liver transplant in 1995.
