Seven children are injured when school bus and SUV collide in Kansas City

Seven Kauffman School children were taken to hospitals for treatment of minor injuries Tuesday morning after a sport utility vehicle collided with their school bus in Kansas City.

Neither driver was hurt in the 7:30 a.m. crash at 77th Street and Prospect Avenue.

As many as eight ambulances were sent to the scene. Medical personnel took seven of the approximately 20 students on the bus to the hospital with bumps on the head or minor neck pain, an official said.

One child reported that some children flew out of their seats, striking their heads on the ceiling of the bus.

“Kids were scared,” said Dashaun Brown, a sixth-grader at Kauffman School. “Some were saying they were terrified. … Nothing like that had ever happened to them.”

Damage to the bus was minor. Shortly before 9 a.m., the bus driver took the non-injured children to school in their original bus.
