Wind chill advisory remains in effect through Thursday morning for KC area

After spending Tuesday night outside, Joel Hinson, who is homeless, gathered his belongings and made his way to a grocery store in Westport, where he can warm up. Hinson said he dresses in layers and when he can get them, uses hand-warmers in his socks to stay as warm as he can overnight.

A wind chill advisory remains in effect for the Kansas City area until 9 a.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service says the wind chill could be from 10 to 25 degrees below zero through midmorning. Winds will be out of the south around 10 mph.

The combination of bitter cold temperatures and wind will create dangerous conditions. Frostbite can occur in 30 minutes or less if the skin is exposed, the weather service said in its advisory.

Temperatures will climb into the 20s on Thursday but another cold front will move through Thursday night, pushing temperatures on Friday back down to the single digits and lower teens.
