Slick, slushy roads cause morning crashes, slide-offs in Kansas City area
Wet and slushy roads greeted Kansas City area drivers Wednesday, creating slick conditions that contributed to several slide-offs and crashes during the morning commute.
While most of the interstates were wet and slushy, city streets, including secondary and residential roads remained covered with snow from Tuesday’s storm.
Several crashes were reported during the morning commute, including:
▪ Two vehicles collided along northbound U.S. 169 near the Wheeler Downtown Airport.
▪ Two vehicles crashed along the exit from northbound Interstate 29 to southbound Interstate 635.
▪ Two vehicles collided along northbound Intestate 49 near Missouri 150.
▪ Two vehicles crashed along southbound Interstate 470 near Lakewood Boulevard.
Meanwhile another winter system is expected to move into Kansas Wednesday evening and move northeast and across west central and northwest Missouri after midnight.
About an inch of snow is expected to fall near the Missouri and Kansas border with snow amounts decreasing the further east you go. Freezing drizzle is possible Thursday afternoon, with roads becoming slick and travel hazardous, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
