Leavenworth residents identified as KCK traffic fatalities

Kansas City, Kan., police on Monday identified two victims of a Friday wreck as Howard C. Levite, 65, and Erica L. Cortez, 47, of Leavenworth.

They died when their vehicle crashed near the intersection of 55th Street and Freeman Avenue. According to police, the pair had been traveling south on 55th Street at a high rate of speed just before 1 a.m. Their vehicle left the road, hit a tree stump and caught fire.

The accident remains under investigation.
