Wreck victim was unconscious eight hours before dialing 911

An Overland Park woman who crashed early Thursday along Interstate 470 spent about eight hours there until regaining consciousness and calling 911.

The driver, Cassandra L. Wiggins, suffered a displaced hip as well as head and lower back injuries in the Kansas City wreck.

Wiggins could not be reached Friday for comment. Her condition was unavailable.

According to police, the accident happened about 7:30 a.m. Thursday near the Hillcrest Road overpass as Wiggins drove east on I-470.

She later told police she was in the center lane when her vehicle hydroplaned and slid off the highway. It went down an embankment and came to rest near a ditch. No other vehicles were involved, according to police reports.

Wiggins told police she was unconscious for several hours. After she awakened about 4 p.m., she dialed 911 on her mobile phone. Fire crews found her vehicle amid tall weeds and heavy brush.
