Kansas City man killed in New Year’s Day crash
A 24-year-old Kansas City man died on New Year’s Day when the driver of the vehicle he was in lost control and crashed.
Aaron R. Thomas was killed in the crash that happened about 7:45 a.m. south of St. Joseph on U.S. 169 in Buchanan County, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Thomas was a passenger in a 2004 Toyota Corolla, which was headed north on U.S. 169.
The driver, a 25-year-old Kansas City man, traveled off the left side of the road, over-corrected and then went off the right side of the road, according to the highway patrol.
The Corolla overturned and went through a fence, coming to rest on its wheels in a pasture.
Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both the driver and Thomas were wearing seat belts.
The driver was taken to a St. Joseph hospital with moderate injuries.
