The population of the United States grew by 0.73 percent this year and will hit 320,090,857 on New Year’s Day, according to a projection by the Census Bureau.

That is an increase of 2,334,187 since a year ago.

In 2015, the bureau projects, the U.S. will experience a birth every eight seconds and a death every 12 seconds. Net international migration will add one person every 33 seconds. The combination will mean one additional person every 16 seconds.

The world population will be more than 7.2 billion on Jan. 1, up more than 77 million since a year ago.
