Fire causes damage at Shawnee supermarket

A fire caused significant damage at a Shawnee supermarket Saturday morning.

Authorities say the fire broke out around 7 a.m. at the Hy-Vee grocery store near Shawnee Mission Parkway and Pflumm Road. It happened in the kitchen, a dispatcher said.

No one was hurt. The store was closed for much of the day Saturday.

The fire was blamed on the spillage of a flammable substance used to heat food at the store.
