Lenexa boy, 4, loses leg in mower accident
A 4-year-old Lenexa boy lost a leg but is in stable condition after a mowing accident Sunday afternoon.
Scott Shacklett was using a riding mower on his property in the 27500 block of West 83rd Street when the accident occurred. Shacklett did not see his son, Truett, who fell underneath the mower, said Brian Wright, a family friend and pastor at Cedar Ridge Christian Church.
The boy was flown to Children’s Mercy Hospital then transferred to the University of Kansas Hopital for a vascular specialist and surgery.
“His leg was severed completely below the knee and the medical staff have been working on his right arm,” according to a statement released Monday by the family. “Truett did have surgery last night. He is stable this morning and recovering.”
Wright said the Shacklett family was surrounded by friends at the hospital and appreciates all the messages of support.
